This is the church where the explosion mentioned earlier occurred. The Original Tilma was displayed here for 267 years.
Its construction began in March 1695 and was finally completed in April 1709.
It underwent significant transformations for various reasons, including the Coronation of the Tilma, the replacement of the altar with one made of marble, and the conditions of the subsoil which was very muddy.
Today it is called the Expiatory Temple, meaning a house of prayer
where the Blessed Sacrament is permanently exposed for the atonement of sins.
Adoration begins after 11:00 am, but it’s important to check the schedule of Holy Mass, as the interior is closed to visitors for half an hour before Mass and during Mass.
Holy Mass:
10 am, 12:30 pm, 5 pm.
Penitential Rite:
12:00 pm.
Blessing of Candles:
12:15 pm (Monday to Friday).
It is open Monday through Sunday from 9:45 am to 6 pm.
The schedule may change due to a special feast, a large pilgrimage, or new rules from the Cabildo.
